– 2 Chinese nationals were sentenced to 2 years in prison for criminal conspiracy
– They were charged for selling and in possession of items that were not approved by regulatory bodies
Failure to adhere to laid downs rules with regards to the selling of food items to the Nigerian public has landed 2 Chinese nationals to 2 years in prison for criminal conspiracy.
They were charged with importing and selling sub-standard food items not certified for human consumption by relevant agencies that included Chewing Gums, noodles and other beverages by the Consumer Protection Council of the Kano State Ministry of Commerce and Industries.
The Chinese citizens, Mr Peshad Wang and Mr Zang were charged with selling and in possession of items that were not approved by regulatory bodies like NAFDAC and SON to the unsuspecting pubic there by endangering lives of the citizens.
Chief Magistrate Faruk Ahmad condemned their action which is a breach of laws governing their stay in the Country and convicts them based relevant sections of the Penal Code that found them guilty of their action to 2 years in Nigerian jail.
They were however, given an option to pay Three Hundred Thousand Naira each in lieu of the jail term.
