Female driver crushes eight persons to death



– A female motorist has crushed eight people to death
– The vehicle according to an eyewitness probably lost brake
– The suspect would be lynched to death but for quick intervention of police
It was tragic moment in IIaje Road, in Bariga area of Lagos state, where a female motorist in a LandCruiser Sport Utility Vehicle crushed eight people to death.
The Punch reported that a pregnant woman was among those that lost their lives in the road mishap and also several others were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries, including fractures and broken limbs.

The deadly accident was said to have occurred on Saturday, January 30, around 9pm.
It was also learnt that the driver of the yet-to-be-identified woman left the vehicle for the lady near Majok Filling Station on IIaje Raod and had left for his house.

The ugly incident happened as the woman attempted to drive home.
Eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident explained that the vehicle reportedly surged forward and crushed pedestrians and killed four persons on the spot.
Also, nine persons were reportedly taken to the Gbagada General Hospital and two more people died. About another set of seven casualties were later recovered.
Another set of two corpses were found in the gutter on Sunday morning.
The woman was beaten up by angry youths who dragged her out of her SUV.
But for the intervention of Bariga Police Division, she was had been lynched to death.
It was further learnt that the suspect was to celebrate her birthday on Sunday and was going home to make preparations before the incident happened.

Another eyewitness simply identified as Iya Oyinbo, explained that the vehicle seemed to have a brake failure.
She said: “The woman was driven to the Majok Filling Station by her driver after which the man left for his house and the woman moved to the driver’s seat to drive the vehicle home. What we saw was that the SUV suddenly surged forward and hit a pedestrian at the filling station.
“The vehicle also moved from there to hit some pedestrians by the roadside. It was three stationary faulty cars at the end of the Ilaje Road which eventually stopped the SUV.
“Four persons were crushed and they died instantly, including a woman, who was pregnant, and was taken inside a Keke Napep. On Sunday, two other hospitalised victims died.”
