Reigning FIFA Ballon D’or winner Lionel Messi has been named as La Liga’s Player of the Month for the first time in his career.
The award has been running since September 2013 but amazingly Messi
is just claiming his first title despite winning two Ballon D’or in that
time.
Barcelona’s official website noted that, this is only time Messi has picked up the monthly accolade while Neymar became the first Barcelona player to win the award in November 2015.
In January, Messi scored six goals in six league games, including a hat-trick against Granada in addition to strikes against Athletic Club, Malaga and, crucially, title rivals Atletico Madrid.
