5 reasons why FG banned foreign trips for civil servants

5 reasons why FG banned foreign trips for civil servants

– The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magun on Tuesday, February 9 revealed that there will not be foreign trips available for civil servants anymore
-He revealed this during his 2016 budget defence with the senate committee on anti corruption led by Senator Chukwuka Utazi, the chairman
-In the past administration, the civil servants were usually sponsored to go for training, workshops, seminars and other professional trips to boost their career
Ibrahim Magu
has compiled five reasons Nigerian civil servants can no longer go on foreign trips. Read five reasons according to what Magu said below.
1. The 2016 budget as proposed by the Ministry of Budget and Planning has zero provision for international travels and tours.
2. In line with the circular on implementation of travel guidelines issued by the secretary to the government of the federation in January 2015, there is restriction of provisions for foreign travels.
3. Restriction of foreign travels was because of the need to cover other operational activities that are not financially tasking by the civil servants.

4. The Civil Service Commission had requested for 160 million naira for the foreign trips but this request is likely to be declined.
5. The decision was made because of the dwindling oil revenue and the Muhammadu Buhari government’s commitment to reduce recurrent expenditure in this financial year.
The Federal Government on Saturday, February 6 placed a ban on public officials to take foreign trips.
This was contained in a press statement titled Restrictions on Foreign Trainings and International Travels by Public Servants and signed by Mohammed Manga, the assistant director (media relations) in the office of the Head of Service.
This decision was taken due to the fall in the country’s economy as a result of the falling price in oil.
